The ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy has taken a lot of recognition, and the only cause behind it is the appearance of former India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The 35-year old led Jharkhand to the quarterfinal of the 50-overs tournament, and as expected there was a huge murmur around the Air Force Sports Complex in Palam, where Dhoni’s side was taking on Vidarbha for a spot in the top-four.
Batting first, Vidarbha scored only 159 runs. In response, Jharkhand went off to a solid start as their openers Pratyush Singh (33), and Ishan Kishan (35) scored 68 runs for the first wicket. With such a low target and the openers providing a good start, the fans were dropping beliefs to see Dhoni in work.
Every time a batsman got out, the people started chorusing ‘Dhoni Dhoni, ’ but the World Cup-winning captain was not arriving out as he was giving the other batsmen the much-needed batting practice. The Jharkhand captain finally came in the 35th over.
As supposed, he was greeted with a massive roar from the crowd, but one of the fans could not regulate his emotions and hopped over the wall from outside the ground to trespass the pitch. With a paper in his hand, the devotee urged Dhoni for his autograph, and the star batsman served. Fascinated with the Indian batsman’s response, the fan couldn’t stop himself from stroking his feet before being accompanied out of the ground.
